The ICAS Book Prize (IBP) was established in 2003 to honour outstanding publications in the field of Asian Studies. It aims to create an international focus for academic publications on Asia, thus increasing their worldwide visibility and recognition.

At first the ICAS Book Prize only recognised works in English, but it currently also includes prizes for excellent works on Asia in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Each language edition has its own organising Secretariat and sponsors. From small beginnings, the ICAS Book Prize has grown into the leading book prize in the field of Asian Studies.
