Summary
This is an Inter-Asia Cultural Studies project. By inter-referencing the case of Hong Kong and Manila, sound artists, electronic musicians, experimental musicians and noise musicians were found and examined to have a a collective practice, called sound practice. The dissertation presented the genealogy of this sound practice, ecology of sound practice and the conditions that enabled the practice. Identifying technological movements, do-it-yourself culture, and art institutions as factors that enabled these conditions of practice.
